Finally got to see the 2004 WB mystery pilot that will, apparently, never be released to the public; (if you're curious, here's a link to a "sound only" video). For your enjoyment, here are some terrible, terrible photos I took while the video was running. Spoiler alert: they're terrible. Enjoy!
Blair Brown as Elizabeth Collins Stoddard and Martin Donovan as her brother, Roger Collins.
Sexy Jason Shaw as Joe Haskell and future The Help star Jessica Chastain as Carolyn Stoddard. Once again we are treated to a young woman walking down the deserted streets of a California coastal town -- derp, I mean Collinsport, Maine -- where she is attacked by Barnabas. There were a few cool effects where Barnabas stalks her like a panther in the trees. Plus did I mention that Jason Shaw is sexy as hell?
Okay, so this was weird. Festival guru Jim Pierson has huge issues with the end of the pilot, where Vicki runs down Angelique in the road, and they have a scream off. A freaky and effective image, but it was, admittedly, really bizarre how they tried to out shriek each other.
Ivana Miličević as Angelique. You probably recognize her from the 6th season of Buffy if, like me, you are a giant nerd.
Alec Newman as Barnabas, looking weird.
Angelique in her decidedly not-very-18th-century flowy red gown as she acts all seductive around a ten year old. Eeeeeeeevil.
Alexander Gould, pre-Weeds, as David Collins, brandishing the dagger that pinned Angelique down like a bug.
Kelly Hu as Julia Hoffman. A bad ass Julia Hoffman. Young and pretty for the first time. Not a slam against Grayson or Barbara (calm down, kiddies), but still, an interesting idea.
Carolyn again.
Angelique's interesting finger jewelry. Maybe it helps her cast spells.
Marlie Shelton as the "blonde Vicki." A friend of mine was very perturbed by her blondness; I, meanwhile, rather enjoyed her backbone, not a common quality enjoyed by most Victoria Winterses.
And another shot of scary, shrieking Angelique. Good times.
Hey ... for funzies, here's a link to the script.
Dark Shadows (1966-1971) was a soap opera with an emphasis on the supernatural that has garnered a cult following in the years since it left the air. The introduction of Barnabas Collins (Jonathan Frid) catapulted the series to enormous success, capturing the public's imagination in a way that continues to endure today. This online fanzine will provide a place for rare photos, articles, stories, artwork, and other multimedia as a tribute to the magic and mystery that is Dark Shadows.

Where did you see this? I was hoping they would have shown it at the 50th Dark Shadows Festival.
ReplyDeleteAt the 50th fest. It was a "mystery showing." :P
DeleteA mystery showing? I was at the 50th Anniversary. When did this air? HOW DID I MISS THIS? :-(
ReplyDelete*shrug* Check your program guide; one of the nights (Saturday?) at 6 (?) they showed it. It was pretty cool; my only problem was that the sound lagged.
ReplyDeleteYep, I remember they were way behind schedule and that's how I missed it. :-(
