Vicki, possessed by Josette, describes her flight to Widow’s Hill, but Barnabas shakes her out of the trance before she can jump. While getting a breath of air, Vicki sees Sarah and recognizes the dress from the trunk in the attic. Barnabas gives Vicki Josette’s music box.

Julia hypnotizes Maggie, and she recalls tinkling music and being in a cemetery. Vicki decides to put flowers on Josette’s grave.

Julia takes Maggie to Eagle Hill Cemetery, where they narrowly miss being seen by Vicki and Burke. Julia realizes that Maggie’s little friend has the name as Sarah Collins.

Maggie is terrified by the name Collins. Julia comes to Collinwood posing as an amateur geneologist seeking to write a history of the Collins family. When Julia mentions Barnabas’ name to Maggie, she becomes hysterical.

Vicki, mesmerized by Josette’s music box, fights with Burke about her growing interest in the past. Later, she becomes trapped at the Old House during a storm, where Barnabas invites her to stay in Josette’s room.

A discussion about Josette’s death and the mysterious man who caused it begins to make Barnabas feel guilty about his plans for Vicki. He wants Willie to stay with him to prevent him from going to Vicki’s room, but later appears there, fangs bared. After a moment he pauses, glares at the portrait of Josette, then leaves Vicki unharmed.

Liz decides to let Julia conduct her research in order to shake Vicki out of her romantic interest in the past. Julia meets Barnabas, and the two endure a tense stand-off when Barnabas refuses to help her in any way.

Burke is upset that Vicki spent the night at the Old House. When Barnabas visits, Julia notes that he has no reflection in her compact mirror.

Barnabas appears in Vicki’s room, fangs bared, but retreats once again. Julia is interested in the legend of Josette Collins and begins to make connections to Maggie. She discovers Barnabas asleep in his coffin.

Vicki begins to fear her growing obsession with the past. Barnabas appears in Julia’s room to strangle her, but she isn’t in the bed.

Julia tells Barnabas that she might be able to cure his vampirism. When he decides to renege and tries to kill her, she tells him that Maggie is alive, and that if he destroys Julia, he destroys himself.

Dr. Woodard threatens to take Maggie from Julia’s care. Sarah tells David that Maggie is alive. When David brings Sarah to Collinwood to meet Vicki, she disappears, but she leaves her cap behind.

Vicki invites Barnabas to view an abandoned house with her and Burke, and Burke interrogates him about his supposed former life in England.

Sarah appears to Maggie at Windcliff and offers to help her escape. After leaving the house they explored, Burke, Vicki, and Barnabas arrive at the Blue Whale, just as Maggie enters, shocking everyone when she faints at the sight of Barnabas.

Maggie’s memories are beginning to return. Julia hypnotizes her so that she forgets everything that happened after she was attacked.

Julia promises that, as long as Barnabas cooperates, Maggie’s memories will never return. Barnabas decides to kill her anyway, but Sarah’s doll saves her.

Joe and Sam wonder how best to protect Maggie. Sarah is upset when she visits Maggie and realizes that Maggie has forgotten her. Barnabas enters Maggie’s room to kill her, but is brought to tears when he hears Sarah singing “London Bridge.”

Burke wants to buy Seaview, the abandoned house he visited with Vicki, but Liz finds that it is not for sale. Maggie’s memories begin to return, but Julia hypnotizes her again.

Julia warns Barnabas to leave Vicki alone. However, Barnabas enters her room again and plays the music box while she sleeps.

Julia continues to give Barnabas the injections that they hope will cure him. Barnabas now strongly desires to live “a normal life.” Burke proposes to Vicki and Barnabas vows to kill him.
